Mission Statement
“Using Catholic social teaching, scripture, and prayer, we lead St. Jude Parish in educating, acting, and advocating for social justice that achieves the common good and human dignity of our community.”
Who We Are
We are a group of parishioners focused on advocating for increased awareness and implementation of social justice through Catholic Social Teaching. We partner with other ministries at St. Jude Parish and community partners to advance relevant, critical social topics affecting our community and faith.
History
Our group formed in 2020 amidst the turbulence of social issues affecting America and our Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Against this backdrop of fear and uncertainty, our group looked to provide guidance to the parish about how our faith guides our beliefs and actions regarding justice, equality, and human dignity.
In 2021, the Social Justice Committee led a parish-wide survey describing parishioners’ views of the social topics most pertinent to our community. Click here for the results of the report. Based on these survey results, the parish is most interested in addressing social justice topics of poverty, racism, and the dignity of life. We seek opportunities for our members to learn about Catholic Social Teaching topics and find ways to enact this in everyday living. We also work with other Pittsburgh parishes and groups to find additional opportunities.
Come Join Us!
We meet once a month (first Tuesday of the month) to plan parish events, discuss social justice topics, pray for peace and justice, and identify ways to better serve our community. All are welcome to join us!
If you cannot join our meetings, you can join our mailing list to receive updates on volunteer events, educational speakers, and other opportunities to learn about and act out Catholic Social Teaching!
