We welcome Dr. Kathleen Glenister Roberts as our guest speaker on Monday evening, October 16th., at 7:00 PM at St Raphael Church, 1154 Chislett Street (Morningside) Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
Dr. Roberts is a Professor of Catholic Studies and Director of the University Honors College at Duquesne University. Embodying Duquesne’s educational vision of “informing the mind, engaging the heart and invigorating the spirit”, she believes that the proper place for encountering God lies in the ever-lasting changing situations of life.
Dr Roberts has published six books, including the national award-winning Alterity and Narrative (2008) and The Limits of Cosmopolis (2014). With a background in sociolinguistics, her research primarily concerns the intersections of pragmatics, ethics, faith, and culture. These topics are reflected in numerous peer-reviewed essays in journals such as Catholic Education: Solidarity: A Journal of Catholic Social Thought and Secular Ethics; Critical Studies in Media Communications, and Argumentation and Advocacy.
Dr. Roberts has won numerous honors for teaching and service, including the Presidential Scholarship Award as well as the Eugene P. Beard Award for leadership in Ethics at Duquesne. She truly lives the Spartan motto: Spiritus est qui vivificat, “It is the Spirit who gives Life"
